Dear Dr Lau

Here as promised is a report on my experience with acupuncture. Not
long after having radioactive seeds implanted in my prostate to kill a
localized cancer, I began experiencing excruciating pain every time I uri-
nated — up to 20 times a day and as many as 10 times a night. I had
never before in my life suffered such pain. To rate its severity, I had to
re-calibrate my personal 10-point pain scale up about 2 or 3 points. I all
but stopped exercising from weariness.

After about three months of such pain, mostly because my urologist said
he could do no more to help me, I came to you for acupuncture. On the
day of my third treatment, I experienced significant relief from the pain.
In addition, since I’ve had to get up to urinate only one or two times a
night, I’ve slept much better, my energy level has improved greatly and
I’ve started exercising again.

Though some days are better than others, I am now in my 11th consecu-
tive day of significant relief from that almost unbearable pain. One could
argue, I suppose, and quite plausibly, that the relief I experienced was
due simply to the passing of time. But then one would have to ask why
the relief came all at once instead of gradually. My answer to that ques-
tion has been to continue coming to you for acupuncture treatments.

Sincerely,
Keith Elkins, PhD
